Empalme, Sonora; March 30, 2026. – With an investment of 31.6 million pesos, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño inaugurated the first stage of the Malecón Turístico El Cochórit, a project that positions the municipality as a new attraction point in the country's northwest tourist corridor. The project includes 560 meters of urban and tourist infrastructure, aimed at strengthening connectivity, economic activity, and access to quality public spaces in a region with high development potential. The intervention included roadways, walkways, a bike lane, recreational areas, solar-powered public lighting, and urban furniture, under an approach of accessibility and inclusion, which expands the tourist offering of southern Sonora and triggers opportunities for local commerce. "Today we take a firm step to integrate Empalme into the state's tourist circuit, with infrastructure that generates social well-being and dynamizes the regional economy," stated the governor. With this project, Sonora strengthens its tourist portfolio in strategic coastal destinations, adding Empalme to a network that includes consolidated points such as San Carlos, Puerto Peñasco, Bahía de Kino, and Huatabampito. The development plan contemplates a second stage for 2026, with an estimated investment of 64 million pesos and the extension of an additional 450 meters of boardwalk, which will allow this space to be consolidated as a competitive regional tourist pole. The work is part of a comprehensive strategy to boost tourism as an economic engine in Sonora, through modern, sustainable infrastructure oriented towards leveraging the state's coastal potential.
